Research

UQuantum Research Lab conducts independent applied research across artificial intelligence, computational governance, digital heritage and cultural computing.

The Research Lab provides an environment in which theoretical propositions can be developed into computational experiments and prototypes before claims are made about practical implementation.

Research Programmes

01 — Cultural & Linguistic AI

Research into how AI architectures might better accommodate differences between cultural and linguistic contexts rather than treating a single interpretive framework as universal. Work includes semantic routing, culturally contextual retrieval, multilingual systems and experimental approaches to computational interpretation.

02 — Quantum Governance

An experimental research framework for modelling plurality, relationships and intervention in complex decision systems. It does not propose that cultural or institutional systems are quantum-mechanical systems; quantum concepts are used as formal and conceptual resources.

03 — Digital Cultural Objects

Research into digitised cultural objects that can be searched, reproduced, transformed and interpreted computationally, including consequences for cultural authority, provenance, access, restitution and institutional responsibility.

04 — Knowledge & Retrieval Systems

Retrieval-augmented generation and related knowledge architectures for specialised bodies of evidence, including provenance, contextual retrieval, semantic routing and methods for reducing inappropriate generalisation.

05 — Research Infrastructure

Private and local research environments using open-weight models, model routing, retrieval infrastructure and experimental interfaces to investigate system behaviour, privacy, reproducibility and architectural choices.

Research Status

RESEARCH
Theoretical or methodological investigation.
PROTOTYPE
A functioning experimental implementation.
DEMONSTRATOR
An implementation designed to demonstrate a defined research proposition.
OPERATIONAL
A system used for an active production purpose.

These designations describe development status rather than commercial maturity or independent scientific validation.

Collaboration

We welcome research dialogue with universities, museums, archives, cultural organisations, public institutions and technical researchers working across these areas.
